Paperless – What It Is

Becoming paperless means diminishing your reliance on paper as part of your ‘information processing.’ Paper is simply a way of storing information, hitherto necessary but now increasingly inefficient. A box of paper contains 2,500 sheets and weighs 25 lbs. The information in that box can’t be ‘googled’ or searched, other than by manually flipping through each page. A typical laptop computer can hold the equivalent of millions of sheets of paper, which would weigh several tons if printed out to paper. So ‘becoming paperless’ simply means becoming more efficient at storing and retrieving information. It also means having the ability (for the first time) to backup critical information to remote locations, as well has having the ability to access information from anywhere in the world. Becoming paperless is not something that happens overnight, but it can happen relatively quickly if you want it to and are willing to make the commitment.
